ABOUT GBI SILVER CERTIFICATION

Green Building Index (GBI) is Malaysia’s first comprehensive rating system for assessing how  environmentally friendly a building, community or factory is designed and operated.  Introduced on 3 January 2009, the green rating tool was designed for the Malaysian tropical  climate taking into account environmental concerns, and the country’s social, cultural, and  developmental contexts.

Tropicana has achieved six GBI rated developments namely – Tropicana Gardens Arnica,  Bayberry, Cyperus, Dianthus, Tropicana Gardens Mall & Office Tower. To achieve this GBI  certification, the developments must be built according to these green building standards:

1. Passive design approach in building orientation to minimise direct solar heat gain by  orienting the building towards the North-South direction.

2. Building orientation will also take into account the prevailing wind directions to  maximise cross-ventilation.

3. Ensuring minimum impact on the environment during earthworks, piling as well as  waste and water management.

4. Smart design factors such as extensive sun shades and shady structures to keep the internal temperature pleasant without air-conditioning which will reduce the  emission of Carbon Dioxide.

5. Incorporation of bioswales and rainwater detention paths to minimize any negative impact on the landscaping through stormwater management and natural filtration.

6. Leveraging the topography of the land to minimize the impact on the environment.  The ground level was designed with the existing environment in mind. The lake was  mostly unaltered to conserve the beautiful natural feature of the development

7. Traffic inflow and outflow is managed with the addition of access alternative  transportation in the form of public transportation, such as the Surian MRT station which will in turn reduce carbon footprint.

Currently, Tropicana has built 17 green-rated developments to show our commitment in  building sustainably and responsibly. To find out more about our ESG initiatives, pls do visit  https://tropicanacorp.com.my/sustainability.
