There was a debate earlier too on the PR status. Here’s that earlier news article: theborneopost.com “Tiong questioned the real meaning behind Mas Ermieyati’s statement about the programme only favouring applicants from China.

Now, this is the LATEST for the PR application for MM2H participants

Article in malaymail.com New participants of the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) Programme in all three categories — Platinum, Gold and Silver — are not eligible to apply for permanent resident (PR) status, according to Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.

In a Facebook post today, Tiong announced that the government has agreed to introduce new participation requirements for the MM2H Programme.

“Through this new approach, the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) is confident that the MM2H Programme will attract prospective participants from the target groups, especially high net-worth individuals and digital nomads, to make Malaysia their top destination.

“The presence of these groups is expected to boost the local economy, especially in the tourism, housing, education and medical industries, making Malaysia a highly competitive global hub,” he said. Article in malaymail.com

Question is answered for the PR status

No one under the MM2H can apply for the PR status. Not even Platinum participants yeah. In other words, there is nothing else to discuss lah. It’s straightforward answer. Actually, what does the PR status bring to the table? If I am rich enough, I can stay anywhere lah. Plus I may come from a country where everything is fine but I want a cheaper place to maximise the reach for my money. So, why would I need a PR here in Malaysia when there is nothing to stop me from continuing to stay here and enjoy the food, sights and shopping.

Happy knowing.
